Where Do You Knit?

Field bag
Sunday afternoon my husband and I went to one of those movie theaters that’s a drafthouse so you can order drinks and food right at your chairs. We finally decided to see the Entourage movie (we used to watch the show) and it was an opportunity for us to get out of the house. I realized, my husband didn’t even bat an eye at me when I pulled out my Boothbay sweater in the theater to keep working on the collar (hello 5 inches of garter stitch!) during the movie.

I will knit anywhere.

89/100 #100happydaysofDWJ waiting on my mom so I decided to not waste time and take a coffee/knitting break. #dwjknits
I knit in coffee shops, movie theaters, waiting in line, waiting at the doctor’s office, on the subway and always in the car. It is rare that I don’t have a knitting project with me 90% of the time. Plus I’ve got project bags of all shapes and sizes (and have turned things that aren’t project bags into project bags because I saw their true potential) so why not take it with me?
And yet I hear people say they’re embarrassed to knit in public. Why? I’ve been stopped by people to ask what I’m making or where I learned to knit. One day in a coffee shop while I was waiting for my mom a guy saw me knitting and told me about this amazing hat his girlfriend in high school knit for him. They broke up a long time ago but he seemed to really miss that hat…and maybe her too. LOL

So is it just me? Or do you knit everywhere you go too? And if you are afraid to knit in public, why? I’m just curious.

*Oh and my favorite project bags include Baggu 3D Zip Bags (Large, Medium and Small) and the Fringe Supply Field Bag.

Weekend Plans

Saturday morning snoozing 🐶💤 #cherstagrams
In my mind, this is what I hope and dream all my weekends will look like but in reality, I’m always running about and exhausted by Sunday night. My plans for this weekend have changed and it is giving me an opportunity to slow down. I’ve still got quizzes to grade, a massive closet to clean and overhaul for fall (if I don’t do it now I don’t know when I’ll have the time) and a sweater I want to make more progress on. I am close to the end of the body with Boothbay which means I might actually be picking up stitches for the collar on Sunday night! I like to leave my sleeves last, just in case I don’t have enough yarn or decide I want the sleeves to be 3/4 length and not full length. Wool sweaters are HOT!
Dog Tag
And since I showed a picture of Cher, can I just say how adorable this dog tag is for her collar? I found it on Etsy and there are several dog types but for Cher’s face this seemed to match her the best, so I ordered one for her. I asked if they could add some white to the muzzle and she sent me a mock-up last night and it’s just so cute!! Although my favorite color is green, I’ve made purple Cher’s signature color so this will be lovely in purple added to her deep purple collar. I’ll have to share a pic when it arrives.

Okay, have a great weekend everyone!

Fringe Supply Co. Field Bag

Field bag
This week the highly coveted Fringe Supply Co. Field Bag made it to my local yarn shop, Fibre Space. I am always looking for the best way to store my projects since I’m usually working on more than one at a time and I have really wanted one of these since they were first introduced, but they always sell our so quickly! The stars aligned and it was meant for me to pick one up this week. I actually drove to work the day they were coming to town, my husband was home sick so I didn’t have to rush home to get the dog, I had discounts on my loyalty card at my yarn shop (plus it’s my birthday month) and I had the cash already in my pocket. The universe was telling me I needed this, right?
Field bag
It’s a lovely canvas bag that stands up on its own! It has a wide mouth opening and a sturdy leather strap that should age over time.

The interior is roomy (I fit 6 balls of this yarn in there easily) and it has pockets to hold notebooks, needles, etc. It also has three grommets on the inside to lead your yarn through. My only issue is that I know this canvas will get dirty pretty quickly because I always carry knitting with me. I would love to see another version of it in a denim or something with a dark pattern to hide that early wear and dirt. But for now, she’s mine and she will be housing my rainbow Madigan I intend to cast on next.

What are some project bags you love for storing and carrying around your projects? I’m always searching for the perfect one!
