I’m very good friends with Shay Johnson, the knitwear designer behind the As If Tee and the As If Tee Lite. Because we are friends, she often shares design ideas and let’s us preview her knitting patterns. I’m currently knitting her latest shawl pattern the Marlon shawl (it’s such a satisfying yet simple knit). Last fall she designed her latest sweater, Pick Your Poison aka the PYP sweater (my Ravelry project page) and I knit one up and got sooooo many compliments.
I knit this one with Kraeo Uncle Mulberry yarn in Double Mint for my main color and Early Grey Fibers (she no longer dyes yarn) Assam Worsted in Bottled Dreams for my contrast color (it also matches my hair, I dyed the ends teal because why not?). The Kraeo yarn is a lovely merino and silk blend with beautiful drape to it and just a touch of a soft fuzz. I chose to do a standard collar, three quarter length sleeves and a split hem.
Here’s what’s fun about this pattern:
- It’s worsted weight, so it’s a pretty quick knit.
- She gives you options for the neckline, the colorwork, the sleeves and the hemline.
- It isn’t an overly complicated sweater. It mixes a little colorwork for the yoke with satisfying stockinette for the body.
Now, when I like a pattern, I knit it more than once, so I recently knit myself a second one (Ravelry project page) using Magpie Equinox worsted yarn, a silk and linen blend that I love in Masquerade as my main color and Ce Chic as my contrast color. I wanted a lighter weight version I could wear now and just layer when it gets cooler. Again, this one matches my hair.
For this version I opted for the standard collar, short sleeves and a standard hem but I changed up my colorwork options. I also added a little short row shaping after the colorwork section because I’ve done that before on another pattern and liked it. I know it’s about that time to think about Rhinebeck sweaters and I think the PYP sweater is definitely a solid contender that won’t have you worried you won’t finish in time.

Lovely, as always!
I love your sense of color! Have you made any of these sweaters for your little dog? We need an update!
Hahahaha no but perhaps a puppy version is in order.
Great colors snd pattern!
Wow both are Beautiful. Love the color combos. I am a worsted weight Fan. This great news. I bought the Marlon shawl patter!!!
You look terrific! Love your sweaters and your hair, too.
hi dana, your sweaters are beautiful! your knitting always makes me happy and think i can do that! ( eventually maybe) lol. you always have a smile when you wear them and seem like you love knitting them and the colors are “happy” colors! your post always makes my day! thank you and keep on knitting! debbie
Gorgeous sweaters in colors I’d never thought would go together. You give me courage.
Wow to both of these. Love your color choices.
I learn so much from your work, Dana, not only the great pattern finds, but also the different yarn choices. These wool/silk and linen/silk blends look like they’d be wonderful to wear. And the colors… Oh, my!
The teal in your hair is everything. I tried to do mine teal (from bleached blonde) and I got navy blue. Perfectly nice but not the aim…
Also both sweaters are fab, love that you have options for lots of different parts of the design. Looks great in short and long sleeves.
