FO: Basil Cardigan & a Few Other Savory Knits

I realized for the last three years in spring, I’ve knit a Savory Knits pattern.

Pressed Flowers cardigan

In 2023 I finished up my Pressed Flowers cardigan, which I love and want to make a second one in a bright palette because why not? Plus it was a fun and easy to memorize slip stitch pattern.

Rosemary cardigan

In 2024, I finished the Rosemary cardigan as a nice transitional piece in Berroco Remix and I love the deep shawl collar.

Well this year I was looking for a neutral colored sweater in white or cream that I could wear during this weird up and down weather period and when I saw the Basil cardigan I knew that’s what the Berroco Remix Chunky I bought was meant to become. The button band is part of the construction but you start with the garter stitch collar and then pick up stitches. I knit it on size 9 needles, so it moved pretty quickly. And this time I used Remix Chunky which is light but still gives enough warmth on those chilly spring events or when the weather takes a dip and you need a light layer.

The finished sweater needed seven buttons and I found six of these insanely cute dog buttons in my stash. I have no clue when I got them or where they came from (maybe a gift?) but I love them and new they would be perfect for this sweater. I made the seventh button at the bottom the same cream color as the sweater.

And based on how much Kiwi kept snuggling up to this sweater, I should probably use the leftover skein to make her. a little sweater too.

Of course Kiwi needs a matching sweater! Also, the Chihuahua buttons are perfect, so let’s hope you can find more for Kiwi’s wardrobe.

Love all three sweaters, Kiwi’s tee, and your sneakers in the bottom pic. šŸ˜‰

What a great trio of sweaters! I’ve knit the Acer Cardigan and both the Felix Pullover and Cardigan. Now I’m working on a Pressed Flowers Cardigan—thank you for the inspiration and a few more patterns to add to the queue!

I didn’t even notice the Basil cardigan didn’t have all the same buttons ’till I read it and went back and looked. And yes, yes to the sweater for Kiwi. Have you knit a dog sweater in such heavy yarn?

I knit a pressed flower cardigan a few years ago – I’ve been fantasizing lately about making another sweater that’s similar – I love the proportions.

    Great sweaters, as always

I’ve knit them dog sweaters in every weight of yarn. And this is a chunky but it’s a lighter fiber content.

I love your pressed flowers cardigan. I have it in my queue. I have the pattern and the yarn all ready to go. (Along with my thousand other to do projects in my queue) lol. I love Amy’s patterns. I just finished my fifth Felix pullover. (Some I made for summer) You are such an inspiration to me with all the sweaters you knit.

I just saw your Basil cardigan on Ravelry and came over here to see if you had more construction details. I’m thinking of using a bulky weight yarn for this sweater too and wondered how you calculated for your sweater. Did you use a size down for the width calculations? I guess I can figure out the math, but my morning brain is looking for an easy solution šŸ™‚ Your sweater looks great and gives me the extra boost to know I can use my bulky yarn and have it work out.
