FO: Small Cardigan

My cousin is having her first baby, a boy, in March. She wants a blanket and I’ll make it (totally doing it in bulky weight) but I wanted to give her something she could actually use when he was born and give to her as a present now. So I decided to whip up one of my always adorable Baby Sophisticate cardigans.

Added bonus, I don’t know his name but I know their last name so I I embroidered their last name in my script on the bottom. It kind of gave it a little special touch and she loved it. Next time I’ll use embroidery thread but I couldn’t find it, so I just used the same yarn I knit the cardigan in, Caron Simply Soft. Honestly, that’s my go to yarn for baby gifts. It’s soft, machine washable and dryer friendly and it’s always on sale at a craft store.

I’ve got to make another one for a friend having a baby girl around the same time. She’s also getting a blanket but I just love these little cardigans for when they’re first born. You throw it over a little onesie and they’re warm and cute. Nothing better.

Dana, I’m wondering if you could have split the plies on the yarn for the embroidery? Anyway, the sweater is adorable!

this is so cute! I have tried duplicate stitch and I am NOT good at it at all lol!
I highly recommend the Garter Ear Flap Hat as a baby gift – it’s easy and looks like it isn’t!

This is one of my absolute favorite baby patterns! I’ve knit three, including for twin boys in opposite colors. I love yours!

There are links to the pattern that you can get to on Ravelry. It’s not my pattern.

I love this thoughtful and beautiful gift. Their family named stitched on the pocket is the sweetest touch. I also appreciate that you use both craft store easy care yarn as well as, specialty hand dyed yarn in your projects. 💖

Very cute! I love the personalized touch. Baby Sophisticate is my GO TO baby knit. It’s just so cute and classic, and its quite forgiving (like when I increase too many times in the raglan shaping, or don’t have enough for a very good shawl rollover..) I think I’ve knit like 8 or 9 of them so far. I try other patterns to test my skills and often go back to the Baby Sophisticate!
