My cousin is having her first baby, a boy, in March. She wants a blanket and I’ll make it (totally doing it in bulky weight) but I wanted to give her something she could actually use when he was born and give to her as a present now. So I decided to whip up one of my always adorable Baby Sophisticate cardigans.
Added bonus, I don’t know his name but I know their last name so I I embroidered their last name in my script on the bottom. It kind of gave it a little special touch and she loved it. Next time I’ll use embroidery thread but I couldn’t find it, so I just used the same yarn I knit the cardigan in, Caron Simply Soft. Honestly, that’s my go to yarn for baby gifts. It’s soft, machine washable and dryer friendly and it’s always on sale at a craft store.
I’ve got to make another one for a friend having a baby girl around the same time. She’s also getting a blanket but I just love these little cardigans for when they’re first born. You throw it over a little onesie and they’re warm and cute. Nothing better.
That’s really lovely!
Love it. Im TOTALLY about the bulky blankies. Cute little sweatertoo. You Rock Dana😍
Dana, I’m wondering if you could have split the plies on the yarn for the embroidery? Anyway, the sweater is adorable!
Probably, but I was fine with the end result.
he’s going to look like Mr. Rogers in this !! Absolutely adorable.
this is so cute! I have tried duplicate stitch and I am NOT good at it at all lol!
I highly recommend the Garter Ear Flap Hat as a baby gift – it’s easy and looks like it isn’t!
OOPs! Forgot to say it is a free pattern on Purl Soho site…
Oops! I forgot to add that the Garter Ear Flap Hat is on the Purl Soho site…
That sweater is adorable!
Love this ❤️
Awwwwwww…. :). I love little-old-man sweaters on babies. So cute.
This is one of my absolute favorite baby patterns! I’ve knit three, including for twin boys in opposite colors. I love yours!
Love the embroidery, what a spectacular touch! 😉
Love the sweater
Do you sell the pattern?
There are links to the pattern that you can get to on Ravelry. It’s not my pattern.
I love this thoughtful and beautiful gift. Their family named stitched on the pocket is the sweetest touch. I also appreciate that you use both craft store easy care yarn as well as, specialty hand dyed yarn in your projects. 💖
That’s my favourite baby cardigan as well. Nice touch with the embroidered name!
What a sweet little cardi 💕
Very cute! I love the personalized touch. Baby Sophisticate is my GO TO baby knit. It’s just so cute and classic, and its quite forgiving (like when I increase too many times in the raglan shaping, or don’t have enough for a very good shawl rollover..) I think I’ve knit like 8 or 9 of them so far. I try other patterns to test my skills and often go back to the Baby Sophisticate!
