I’ve been working on something fun. Last year I made my London tee for my trip to London and this year I decided to use the same concept of a destination knit to make tee for when I go to a New York for the NY Liberty game at the Barclays in Brooklyn.
Just like with my London Tee, I decided to use a bunch of Juniper Moon Farms Zooey and Summer Solstice yarn to pull this together. I loved their seafoam green color and it goes nicely with the NY Liberty team colors (I realized that when I knit a Vestank with these two colors last summer).
I used the Strange Brew pattern by TinCan Knits as my base and made a few modifications. I used charts from Doodle Decks, Knitovation and then made up a few of my own using Chart Minder. In order the motifs are:
- Torches: they’re already a part of their logo.
- Liberty (to mimic subway tile signs)
- Basketball hoops
- Basketballs
- The Brooklyn Bridge
- Elephants for their mascot Big Ellie
- Cloud Nine for my favorite player Natasha Cloud
- And Stew York for my other favorite Liberty player, Breanna Stewart
I knit this over six weeks while watching a lot of WNBA games. I plan to wear it next week when I go to the game with Kay of Modern Daily Knitting who is who encouraged me to be a Liberty fan. I’m sure I’ll share more online and on MDK about going to the game, but I at least wanted to share this great knit here too.

Do it!! My WNBA watching friend and I decided we want to go see a game in Ballhala one year! It looks like such an awesome atmosphere.
I hope to! I haven’t seen them in person yet, but some friends of friends have season tix, and they report that it IS absolutely awesome!
I gotta support WNBA in all forms. But as a Minnesotan, I just can’t think of a better team to follow than the Lynx!! You’ll see them in all their glory playing the Liberty – they play such great team basketball, with or without Queen Phee. Have so much fun!!
