How is it December already? My year feels like it was too short and too quick, but here I am powering down for the end of the semester and getting ready to fully enjoy a winter break. And of course when it is the most festive time of year, I found some really sparkly yarn and immediately had to cast it on. When I was at Looped Yarn works they had Pru Yarns Unicorn Tears yarn, which is a black lace weight yarn with big fat sequins on it. I couldn’t resist. I also decided to pair it with Illimani Yarn in Sabri, a really pretty blue green fingering weight that’s 85% cotton and 15% alpaca yarn, so it would make a nice and light sweater that and I can wear for a large part of the year.
I mean, this is a pretty stellar combination. I know it isn’t the typical combo, I think most people would pick black but I had a feeling the blue green would really make the sequins pop. I also decided that I wanted to do a simple sweater to let the sequins shine, so I went to one of my favorite patterns, Lento!
Knitting up two strands of yarn on size ten needles made this a very quick 8 day project. The hardest part was that sometimes the sequins would get stuck on each other as you’re pulling the yarn but I was mindful of that and very careful as I was knitting. I was also asked a lot on social media if the sequins are scratchy on the body and they are not to me. I always wear a tank top or camisole under my knits but I didn’t feel like they scratched my arms. I also haven’t worn it all day, so we shall see if it’s scratchier the longer you wear it (I’m doubtful).
This isn’t the kind of sweater that I’m just going to save to New Year’s Eve, I like to wear fun color and textures all the time, so this might make it out to Sunday brunch or just on a day when I need a mood boost. I mean…how can I not be happy with all this sparkle?
Wear the good knits, don’t save them. Stop hoarding the really good or expensive skeins of yarn and just knit them! Life is too short to not wear the sparkle. And perhaps when I’m wearing this sparkly goodness I’ll bring a smile to someone else’s face too. Have a great holiday season everyone!

I had never heard of sequin yarn until yesterday! I saw the sequin knit dress on the Ravelry front page and now I’m obsessed. I didn’t think I’d ever really have a need for a sequin dress but you’ve made me realize I could *possibly* just wear it for joy.
My sister loves sequins all the time and Iām like why not?!
Magnificent, Dana!
