FO: Yesteryears

I realize that it takes me longer to post about finished objects not because I’m not wearing them but because I forget to take pictures when I do! The first time I wore my Yesteryears sweater was the day we brought Kiwi home and to say it has been a crazy five weeks since bringing a puppy into our home (a good crazy) is an understatement. But I finally put it back on and snapped a pic (including Kiwi) so I could talk about it here.

Yesteryears

Yesteryears (Ravelry link) is in the new book Worsted by Aimee of La Bien Aimee yarn. I love a worsted weight knit so I knew I would pick the book up as soon as I saw it but I wasn’t sure what yarn. When I was at Rhinebeck, I picked up two shades of Loop yarn in Kiss (the body color) and Makeup, the lighter color in the yolk. My friends both knit sweaters in this yarn that I loved so much that I had Loop on my list at Rhinebeck and I am surprised I was able to decide on the colors. And when I saw the Yesteryears pattern I thought this yarn might be a fun and trippy color selection to make this sweater with.

Yesteryears

For my version, I chose the size 4 because I didn’t want an oversized sweater. I also knew I would only make the body length after sleeve separation about 10 inches and then an inch of ribbing. That’s my preferred length for my sweater body, it’s not super cropped and it hits right at the top of my pants. And because I’m all about wearing what I knit, I knew I would only want the sleeves to be short sleeves because my classrooms are warm and Maryland doesn’t get that cold. Because the yarns are the same but with opposite dominant colors, from far away it’s like looking at one of those posters where you have to relax your eyes to see the colorwork (LOL) but up close it is distinct. I’ve got a little bit of both colors left so I’m saving them for fall and might make the dogs contrasting sweaters. The verdict is still out on whether or not Kiwi will tolerate clothes. She’s not bothered by the cold right now and she bites whenever we put harnesses or things over her head (working on that with some positive reinforcement training), so no sweaters for our tiny girl just yet.

Kiwi and the sweater

But she does love the feel of yarn and likes to plop herself down on anything I’m knitting and promptly take a nap. Oh Kiwi, I am so glad you’re a part of our family.

  1. I love the way you choose really bright colors. It’s inspiring

  2. I love your new sweater. That Pink is BEAUTIFUL 😍😍😍I hope Kiwi will like sweaters, she is a born Super Model💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

  3. Kiwi might adjust better to the type of custom made harnesses we use for our doxies, with Velcro that attaches at the neck and chest. Although named after dachshunds, they can make any size. We love them.

  4. You look fabulous! And so does your sweater! How lucky you are to have little Kiwi in your life! 💕

  5. Love, love, love the color and sweater pattern 💓. I haven’t seen anything you have made that I don’t love. And Kiwi is a cutie. When I put a harness on my dog Dori I stick my hand through the harness opening and have a treat in my hand. She gets so excited about the treat that she lets me slip the harness on as she eats the treat. She is very good motivated 🐶😀 maybe Kiwi would do the same.

  6. I love your sweater! You blow me away with your talent and color choices. I’m so happy for Kiwi to have you and your husband as dog parents. I enjoy watching her and jellybean on the gram. 😉

  7. I would never have though of short sleeves. It looks great and, of course, Kiwi looks just fine naked. I see sheer sleeves sweaters on my needles in 2022. Thanks!

  8. Love your updates and the photos! I have a hard time remembering to take pictures of my projects also!

  9. Those colors are beautiful in the sweater and on you! Kiwi is such a lovely pup. Being a puppy parent is a VERY busy thing! Happiness now doubled…

  10. Hello Dana and Family 😊
I love the sweater and color combination♥️ Hey Kiwi 😊

  11. You look beautiful! That is an awesome sweater (and a cute puppy).

  12. that color combo is a knockout! your blog tonight was exactly what i wanted to see/read before heading off to bed today. Kiwi clearly recognizes great knitting when she sees it – there is just a slight difference of opinion on how it should be enjoyed. My old cat PJ shares Kiwi’s approach.

  13. Hi Dana! Lovely sweater and great color choices. Kiwi is a cutie! Hi to Jellybean!

  14. I love all your posts and sweaters but this one may be my favorite yet. I’m not sure if it’s the colors or your gorgeous smile (You glow in that sweater) or the puppy. Thank you for bringing joy into my life.

  15. I love how your colorful tops all look so unique. Lately I’ve been looking at any random collection of sweaters on line and in magazines as just a sea of gray. I love gray, too, but it has become … stifling. I want to grab a bag of oxygen (aka Color),

  16. You’re pretty in pink and the sweater is beautiful. Very Spring! I’m still amaze how quickly you knit. Life gets in the way when we just want to knit. LOL!!! Kiwi is so cute. Now you have two to knit for.

  17. You have been so inspirational to me over the years and today was no exception! While I’m dithering and stalling, trying to decide what yarn and colors, you go ahead, cast on, and go!

  18. Just now catching up with recent blogs. Love, love, LOVE your take on “Yesteryear”, but I’m going nuts trying to find a source for the pattern book (leaflet?). There are two patterns in it I’d like to have — “Yesteryear” and the Norah Gaughan pullover. Looks like it’s a UK publication, but I can’t find a purchase source! Any hints?

    1. I know Aimee sells copies through her site labienaimee.com, it only comes in hard copy and I got it from my LYS.
