The Great Green KAL Starts Today

Ramen Needles green yarn

Today is the start of the Great Green KAL! It’s just a way for people who love the color green to get together and create something fun. You just have to knit or crochet a project using green yarn in it, whether it’s the contrast color or the main color. That is it. We’ve also been getting lots of fun green prizes donated, so there will be lots of fun things you could win along the way. You can join along with the Ravelry Group or join along with us on Instagram. So what am I going to make? I’ve got two projects in mind over the next 6 weeks.

I’m currently working on a sweater for Jessica and a test knit, so I decided I wanted something I could finish during the knit along, so I picked up the Low-key vest pattern by Elizabeth Smith. And that pretty green yarn at the top of the post is from Ramen Needles in the color Cornhenge. I’ve been looking at different indie dyers to try and Ramen Needles has some fun colors and I bought just enough of their worsted weight that it would be perfect for a vest. Plus I haven’t knit myself a vest and have wanted to for a while. My other project that I might not finish but am still excited about is the Wavelength sweater by Tina Tse.

I plan to make the shorter version using Yarn Hero ColorMix DK weight in Reptile House as the main color and a special dyed skein of yarn I’ve got in my stash in a super bright skein. I bought Yarn Hero way back in May and I think this is the perfect sweater to make with it.

I know I probably won’t finish the Wavelength sweater because I’ve got other projects and a test knit deadline looming but I still love that this is motivating me to get going. Are you going to join along in all the fun? What do you think you’ll knit?
