Happy New Year!
We typically don’t go out for New Year’s Eve and this year was no different. We kept it quiet at home with Jellybean and were in bed by 12:30am. But I’m excited for 2020, 2019 was filled with lots of new things and I can’t wait to see what this year will bring. What 2019 did bring was three finished objects I haven’t shared yet! So let’s start with the first one I finished.
This cardigan doesn’t have a pattern, I just had my limitations on what I wanted to do with what I had. I’m trying to really dig through my stash this year, use what I have and push my boundaries to try new ideas for sweaters. I really liked this Lion Brand Stitchbird yarn, so I picked some up on a super sale a while back and decided I’d make a bulky weight cardigan with it. Then I decided as I was making it that I wanted to have a contrasting button band, solid colored pockets and no sleeves. I wanted a bulky weight item that would transition into spring and wouldn’t be so overwhelmingly hot if I wore it while teaching in the winter. A fun layer.
I only had one skein in my stash of Knit Picks Mighty Stitch Bulky in black so I had to make that work for a contrasting button band. And for the pockets I used the Mighty Stitch worsted in conch, the pockets are small because I wasn’t sure how long the sweater would be but they can hold my keys or my phone! This yarn is so soft and cozy. I machine washed it and then let it air dry per the instructions.
And since the yarn has so much fun texture to it, I didn’t want to take away from that so the edges for the body and the sleeves are done in i-cord. Simple, quick and a fun piece to add to my wardrobe. Added bonus, it matches my ‘Nevertheless She Knitted’ Tee from Nerd Bird Makery. And if you’re still on a little winter break like I am, I wrote about quick and cozy knits for MDK too!

You are AWESOME
Hi Dana!! This is terrific, as always!!What a talent to be able to design something beautiful using up your stash. Iβm working on using my stash this year before I run out to get something shiny that captures my attention. Will you be at Vogue Knitting Live?
Yes Iβll be going to VKL
Really cute cardi. I love Lion Brand yarns because they have the best colors and textures. Happy New Year to You and Yours !
Great sweater!! I love the pockets:)
You are the greatest inspiration! Your adventurousness has prompted me to focus on several favorite patterns and make changes to suit new ideas.. I’m currently working up a WAK Petite Wool (camomile) cardigan variation of the Super Simple Summer pullover sweater by Joji that you knitted up several months ago. I’d used that pattern once already, and liked the circular yoke top-down knitting — thought I’d try a front-separated variation.
HNY, Dana – always a delight to see your happy face – and your excellent work !
the article was chock full of good stuff! Thank you and your bulky weight LB cardi looks MARRRR-V-OLOUS!!! Happy New Year, DWJ!
Stinking cute! I hope you post the pattern π Thank you for sharing, Dana! β€οΈ
Cute cardi, and I love your shirt!
I’m so glad that 2019 brought a big expansion for your public visibility. You are fun and inspiring and an all around good peoples. π
Happy New Year, Dana!
Dana, what a great design! The pastel yarn and dark button band create a strong vertical line that is very slenderizing! Tucking that into my inspiration file!
That is just beautiful! You’re inspiring me to think about bulky yarns in a new way.
This is a new favorite to knit, it has to get in line as there is five of your sweaters ahead of it lol. Your lovely in everything you knit!
