Stitching Status: Mistakes, Vacations and Progress

I was on a little hiatus last week because I was on vacation! We spent a week outside of West Palm Beach at a golf resort with friends and even drove up to Disney World for the day. Even at almost 37 Disney turns me into an absolute kid. I think I giggled most of the day. I pretty much took a much needed mental break from work and just chilled out for a week. I’ve got a lot of responsibilities and a hectic August on deck so I decided I just needed to take a break and I did…and then promptly came home with a head cold. Sigh…I can’t win.

You know what was the hardest part? Being away from my little fur baby for 7 whole days. We put her in a very lovely pet resort (and it is a resort that includes doggy massages and even paw-lates classes) and I had a webcam into her room and could see her getting belly rubs and lots of attention. Expensive but worth my peace of mind while I’m away from her. She’s a shelter dog and I worry she thinks she’s being abandoned. This was how excited she was when we finally got home, I think she missed me just as much as I missed her.

I did get a little vacation knitting done and it turned into a bit of a mistake that then turned out to be a pretty decent mistake that made it extra cozy. I’ll explain more later when I do a full post but let’s just say somehow my gauge got really off, this lightweight summer sweater got really big but now I have a completely cozy and comfy sweatshirt like layering piece for the weekends. I used up half of my stash of the Knit Picks Comfy Worsted Heather Special Reserve yarn that’s 75% pima cotton and 25% acrylic and is so soft and dreamy. I bought it during their sale and they have limited colors left and I’m tempted to buy the rest, it’s just that good in your hands. It pilled a little when I washed and dried it but it held up and I think if I wash it again it’ll be okay. I’m also still working on my Estelle Cardigan for my aunt’s 90th birthday present. I brought it with me but put it down to knit up that tee on bulky needles. The arms have been separated and I’ve just got a few inches left of the body before I can pick up the band and do the sleeves!

Okay, so that’s what I’ve been up to, what have you been up to while I was away?

  1. I have some of that Comfy Worsted Special Reserve! it really is incredibly soft.

Glad you had a good vacation!

    1. Thank you! And I love the special reserve yarn. I washed and dried it in the machine, which is why it pilled a little but I’m still happy with the end results. I want more!

  2. Doing a test knit for a lovely designer, but I’m so nervous about doing it perfectly, that I keep having to recount, I’ve never had to fix so many dropped stitches in one garment! My stitch markers are literally jumping off the needles by themselves! I never considered myself a nervous person before!

    1. Don’t be nervous! Although I’ve never been a test knitter because I think I would put so much pressure on myself too. You want it to be perfect.

  3. Nice to see you back and glad to hear that you had a great break. I’ll wait for the post to see what happened but I’m sure you made it turn out alright. 😀
