New Year, New FO: The Montrealer

Hello! And welcome to 2024. 2023 felt like a blur, so much happened and to be honest, I was exhausted through the majority of it. I ended the year getting a hysterectomy and I started this year having way more energy than I have had in the last three years! Who knew giving your uterus the boot could be so beneficial to my health?! While I was recuperating in December I switched up the project I was working on. Originally, I started knitting my husband a lovely Woolly Waffle Pullover, but after frogging a twisted rib neckline I decided it needed to go in timeout for a bit. During that time my husband randomly asked me if I could knit a hoodie. Of course I could, I’ve knit them before! And so I decided to change my plans.

I knit him the Montrealer by Designs by Delz (Ravelry link) using all Berroco Vintage yarn. If I did it again, I would make his kangaroo pocket a little higher, it hit low on him BUT he loves his hoodie.

I can’t get him to take a serious pic to save his life.

It is a fairly easy top down raglan with a provisional cast on at the beginning so you can make the hood. The hood is knit in left and right panels, joined at the top with a three-needle bind off and then a little seaming. The most challenging part with picking up the stitches for the kangaroo pocket but the pattern included a link to a great YouTube video that helped me see exactly what I needed to do.

And I bought a navy blue drawstring to complete the hoodie. How do I know he loved it? He wore it three days in a row. LOL I only steam blocked it and it was immediately worn the next morning when he got up to walk the dogs. He told me it was really cozy and he even asked me for these pics so he could show a coworker. So I’m happy that he’s happy. Next I plan on making Kiwi a tiny hoodie in the same yarns so they can coordinate.

My goal this year is to write more. I bought a desktop computer with a big screen so I can actually see what I’m typing better. I’ve got journal articles to submit and research to do and I want to write about it all and about my knitting. Now that things have calmed down a bit and my health seems to be on the up and up, I’m hoping to do more of what I love. Here’s to a strong 2024!

So glad you’re feeling better, Dana. Continue to be kind to yourself as any surgery that removes an organ is a trauma. Love, love, love your hubbie’s hoodie.

So good to see a post from you today, and hear you’re feeling energized and healthy. You’ve been through a lot — I hope you find, as I have, that having a full-sized monitor and desktop computer help. For me, they solved a lot of problems and made life easier. Now to the sweater — how fabulous! I often wondered if you made longer sweaters — this one is perfect for men AND women. Kudos to your husband for modeling this gorgeous sweater. Love!
