Inspired by Rainbows

It’s one of my favorite times of year, September issue season! Magazines thick with fashion inspiration to help me plan updates to my wardrobe and inspire my knitting. Honestly, September issues are probably the only time of year I really read magazines anymore but I love this burst of inspiration they give me. And I’m already excited because color is everywhere and I keep seeing rainbows!

Tiffany Haddish is on the cover of Glamour magazine wearing an awesome rainbow sweater from ASOS that I totally plan to use as inspiration.  I also learned from her quick interview in O Magazine that her secret talent is that she knits! I was so excited by that! I also go inspiration from a completely unexpected source…a dog leash and harness.
Dog leash
I always get Zee dog leashes and harnesses for the girls because I love their fun prints and colors. And the moment I saw their new Primsa print I knew I had to order it. And I already planned on making two rainbow sweaters this year. I want to make my wool Tecumseh sweater I plan on starting in September with a rainbow color palette! And then use the leftover rainbow yarn from that project to make myself a cardigan. But now I want to add some black and white stripes in there like Jellybean’s leash! I didn’t expect to see all these rainbows and get excited but now I’m itching to start my next knitting project. What’s inspiring your knitting and knitting color palettes?

  1. Yo! I so love that she knits! That made my morning! You rock as usual! It’s old news now, I so expect you to blow my mind and you ALWAYS deliver. Thank you

  2. YES TO ALL! Awesome cover! I love Tiffany Haddish. And I can’t wait to see your Tecumseh in Rainbow effects. I’ve got a little stash of mini skein sets in ROYGBIV and still trying to figure out just what to do with them. Maybe a color-work hat….

  3. I have been wanting to knit a rainbow pullover with black separating the colors and now I’m inspired to actually DO IT!!
Heard you on the PomPom Quarterly podcast and I was in a good mood the rest of the day!!
Thank you!! Good luck with the new employment adventure!!

  4. You were so far ahead of the rainbow trend! I’ve got Tecumseh on my list too. I’ll make it with you! I’m in sweater mode big time. Just finished Sipila and I’m working on Birkin now.

  5. I’m in for Tecumseh — just got my yarn! (Love the new rainbow ideas, especially now the gift knitting season is upon us!)

  6. And NOW you’ll have the TIME too!!! Your schedule will be less hectic now that you’re at HU full-time, so . . . I am SUPER-excited, because I can’t WAIT to see what comes off your needles now! 😉

  7. I’ve been bitten by the rainbow bug too! I was at a friend’s house the other day and her 11 year old daughter was wearing rainbow socks and a rainbow t-shirt. They are everywhere. I happened to see that Red Heart has a rainbow acrylic called “Favorite Stripe” in their Super Saver line. I like to use acrylic for babies, dogs, purses and things that need to be washable. The colors in this yarn are fab!

    1. Lion Brand has a new yarn, Mandala, that has some amazing rainbow colorways. You should check it out.

  8. Oh, my Bob! That’s a gorgeous inspiration piece. I can’t wait to see what you make based on that inspiration.
