The question I’m asked the most is what’s my formula for knitting dog sweaters. I never really sat down and thought about my process until Kay of Mason-Dixon Knitting asked me if I’d be willing to write about it for their site. So I did! And now I’m a contributor.

Just wrote a comment at MDK saying what a happy way to start the day. You are inspiring! I wrote how my DIL always asks me to knit for their dogs- two Airedales and I continue to disappoint her.

Loved it! Alfie needs more sweaters but I have a hard time and always oversize the necks. I need to take some actual measurements.

How do you handle the dog’s claws and sweaters? I don’t wear sweaters at home as my cats want to be held and their claws always seem to catch in the knit. Your dogs also seem to lie on you–how do you handle this?

So delighted for you, Dana! There are a three little pups next door — two chihuahuas and a Yorkie — so I’m thinking that I may just have to give this a whirl. (Our Sadie Cat is not amused. 🙂 ) Congrats on the new status with MDK. Well deserved!
YES! Thank you for the excellent post and clear instructions. I’m knitting a little test sweater for my cat right now and totally making it up as I go along–I will definitely be incorporating your tips when it comes time to knit a keeper sweater with colorwork. My goal this year is matching colorwork sweaters for my (large) dog and (small) cat.
