Another Rainbow?

I’ve been planning what to knit next and what I want in my wardrobe since I cleaned up my stash the other weekend. You already know that I’m obsessed with rainbows and knitting a rainbow makes me so happy so I know I want to do another rainbow this fall. But what type of sweater?

I bookmarked the Rainbow Trail sweater a long time ago and love how the stripes work down with a black base. I’ve also seen cool patterns where just the sleeves have a bit of rainbows too. But I am not buying anymore yarn right now. I’ve been tempted (I’m looking at you Little Knits and your sales) but realized I could look to my stash to make my next rainbow piece.
Cascade Casablanca Rainbow yarn
Remember this lovely yarn? I bought it on a whim when it was on sale because of it’s gorgeous rainbow colorway but not having worked with it didn’t know how it would feel. It’s 59% Wool, 24% Silk and 17% Goat – Mohair, so the texture isn’t soft, it’s actually quite unusual but it’s beautiful. I don’t necessarily want to make an entire sweater with this so I think I can pair with with a neutral. I’ve got some Cascade 220 Superwash in the color called Doeskin Heather and it’s as neutral as neutral can get – so why not add a rainbow to it? One thing I know for sure is that I have to inject color in everything I knit. An entire camel colored sweater would just feel to boring to me, so I’m going to jazz it up with a little rainbow striping but now I have to think about how big the stripes? The frequency of the pattern and what style sweater? Perhaps I can map this out and make it in the Fringe and Friends Knitalong – anyone else thinking of joining it?

  1. Oh, heavens. Today was so not a good time for me to discover Little Knits. Lol

    1. HAHAHAHAHA I know, they really are the gift and the curse. I’m on their email list and they have some of the best sales it’s hard not to resist.

  2. That sounds like the perfect KAL for you! I knew you would be designing your own sweaters before the end of the year! 😉

    1. I mean I did start last year with my striped cardigan, I just don’t care to write patterns!

  3. Thanks for the link to Fringe & Friends KAL; I’m on vacation and clearly not keeping up my blogs. My favoured mustard sweater is based on her top-down tutorial so it’s not a stretch to think I’d make another although something’s going to get bumped from the queue! I do really like the subtlety of the Rainbow Trail sweater. Nice!

    1. I have an idea in my head of something I want to make and I have the yarn but I may start before the knitalong, who knows!

  4. I usually knit textured or lace, mono-colored or bi-colored stuff and when it comes to color-work I generally prefer floral designs, but the contrast of ‘Rainbow Trail’ looks just perfect for a striped sweater, so thank you for sharing ! Talking of Rainbows, your fascination with them reminded me of “Sun is Shining”, my all-time favorite Marley song ♪ Just like your knitting – fabulous, each project radiates pure positivity ! Sending kisses & hugs to Cher ❤
