FO: Painted Pullover

I have had the Painted Pullover pattern by Amy Palmer in my want to knit list since it debuted in the now defunct Knit.Purl magazine in 2015. Eight years is a mighty long time to wait for knit a pattern but I never had the right yarn or enough of the right yarn and it kept getting lower and lower on the list. Then I finally gave in and bought myself some yarn I’ve been wanting since I learned about indie dyed yarn, the Wool Kitchen’s BFL superwash in Frida Kahlo. This was one (of many) graduation gifts I gave myself, this gorgeous deep green yarn with little rainbows running throughout and I knew it would be perfect to finally make my Painted Pullover (my Ravelry page).

Excuse me for the seam down the middle, I had the sweater folded in half and didn’t steam block it before I snapped a few pics (oops!). This sweater is knit from the bottom up and is meant to be a tunic length. If I knit it again, I might shorten the rows in between the decreases just to make it a little shorter but I don’t mind this length for wearing with some slim leg jeans or leggings. The decreases from the garter stitch panel on the interior and create this kind of hour glass shape to the sweater. This one is definitely made for variegated and fun yarns to show off some of the color pooling and variations in color. My friend told me the rainbows look like little lightening bolts and I love that!

I used up just about all of my yarn I bought and I love when a project uses up all the yarn. That always makes me feel so accomplished. I also really love this yarn and how soft it is and how saturated the colors are and how they pop on the yarn. I cannot wait for cooler temps to wear this one.

So does anyone else have patterns older than 2015 they’ve been holding on to in their queue? I keep browsing through my patterns and thinking about ones I’ve loved for a long time and want to push back to the top of my must knit list.

Love your new sweater! I just bought yarn for a sweater I have had in my Ravelry favorites from Twist Collective 2014: Akebia by Kate Gilbert. My hands are nine years older, I hope I can still do it.

I’ve loved this on you since you first posted it on Rav. Fantastic colors and pooling!

Queued patterns from 2015 or earlier? I’ve had some in my mental queue since the 1980s! Yep – still looking for the perfect yarn, or else getting sidetracked by newer shiny objects . . .

OMG, Dana, you’ve done it again – your version is an improvement of the designer’s! I would have gone right by this but it is now on my favorite list. You are so creative and you certainly deserve this gift to yourself. You look great! Hope it’s a mirror of your health!🥰Denise

Lovely sweater – you look happy wearing it!

I returned to knitting in 2013 after a long time away. And yes, there are several patterns that I queued on Ravelry then that are still lingering there – mostly tops for me!

Making the Belle Flare Duo Skirt for my daughter was so much fun that I wanted to also make the Belle Flare Duo Camisole. She’s not a fan of “matchy-matchy” (and besides, I didn’t have enough of the skirt yarn left) so I bought Louet Euroflax to make the top for me and it has sat in a bin for almost ten years.

Since I could really use some nice tops I need to take the plunge and start making some of the sweaters & tops in my queue. Swatching for gauge isn’t really scary, right?

My oldest queued item is from 2009, but there’s a shawl in the queue from 2010 that I have had the yarn for since … about 2010? and somehow just never knitted?

Great sweater, and so beautiful on you! Apparently I added a lot of stuff to my Ravelry queue in 2007! The only one of those that really looks likely is Jared Flood’s Cobblestone pullover, maybe for my husband. Men’s fashion changes more slowly, I guess.

I always have patterns tucked away that I want or wanted to knit. When I pass they will probably still be there for someone else to make. I have really enjoyed your postings and pictures. Especially the pups. Take care and be safe. Linda
