Rhinebeck Weekend 2023

I’m back after a lovely long weekend with my girlfriends in Rhinecliff, New York. If you haven’t had an opportunity to go to a big fiber festival like NY Sheep and Wool, I do recommend it. I actually only bought one sweater quantity of yarn but it was still fun to see all the yarn, tools, pins, accessories and people. I also go to Maryland Sheep and Wool every May and have been to some of the smaller festivals in the area too. Sometimes you just want to see it in person, plus it’s about spending time with my girlfriends.

I have an interview in the latest issue of Pom Pom magazine, Issue 47 Winter 2023. Meghan Fernandes, Co-Founder of Pom Pom, actually sat in on my dissertation defense and immediately told me she wanted to interview me about it for the magazine. In academia, projects are always published incredibly slowly and I hate that I can’t easily share my dissertation, but this is a great way to get a high level view of what the work was about and why I choose to write about knitting. I hung out with Meghan in the Book Barn and signed copies on Saturday afternoon. It was crazy to me that people wanted to me meet me and come by for a signed copy but it was incredibly sweet.

Rhinebeck 2023

My Rhinebeck sweater was my Coven Cardigan that I wrote about for MDK. I also knit my BFF Jessica a Groovy Gensler sweater, another one of Shay’s patterns. Shay, Kanitta and Jessica all wore their Groovy sweaters on Saturday and were cute as could be.

I actually didn’t take a ton of pictures but I hugged friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, met new people excited about my work and ate all the apple cider donuts. Yes, it rained and was muddy but that didn’t damper our spirits or the time I got to spend with my friends. So cheers to great weekends with friends and here’s to the next fiber festival!

I would love to read your full dissertation should it become available, but will settle for the interview for now. I really like the colors in your new cardigan. You give me courage to try new color combinations.

Dr. Dana, It was great to see you this year. LOL I missed seeing you last year. I made earlier trip to PomPom table to ensure I got a copy before it sold out. I love your posts and your work. Thanks for all the tips. Next year I will have to be sure and knit a dog sweater to show you❤️ Sincerely, Jackie

Dana, you demonstrate every day the strength you have by always being your self. That includes How you wear your sweaters, not only what sweaters you are wearing. Those overalls are killer with that cardigan. Maybe you can find a side hustle with Vogue:).

Glad you had a great time at Rhinebeck. I assume you missed the mess of Wool & Folk. I don’t do well with tons of people so I’m thankful I get to enjoy my small town wool festival in Yellow Springs. No tickets/admission fee makes it even better. 🙂
