Stitching Status: Distractions

I typically plan out what I’d like to knit each month in my head and for the most part, what I want to do gets executed. Things that I can’t complete get moved to the next month’s goals but this month I’ve been distracted in so many ways. First with my Aunt being ill and wanting to make her something.

I decided to go with the Bermondsey cardigan just because it’s so easy to work up and I know what to expect. I cast on Thursday and don’t have much longer to go on the body. And I had some down time to myself this weekend and could’ve knocked it out but the color palette (my Aunt’s favorite color is green but she wears a ton of grey and black so I’m giving her all of that) and the monotony of this knit made me decide on something completely out of left field…I cast on a fingering weight yarn shawl.

I’ve had the Dotted Rays pattern in my library for a while. I usually pick up favorites when a designer has a sale and I like that this one can be done in fingering up to worsted weight but I actually chose to make it in fingering weight since I love my Find Your Fade shawl so much and how light it is when I wear it. Plus there are so many gorgeous finished objects and I’ve been dying to cast on with this Perwinkle Sheep yarns in Hot Mama (that hot pink) and the multicolored yarn is Manos del Uruguay in Alegria in Candombe that I bought in New Orleans last year – it was time to use it.

Then add to my ever growing list I saw this test call on Instagram for this sweater that I loved when Samantha made it for a knit-a-long so I volunteered to test knit. Fortunately she doesn’t need a finished object until Dec. 1 but man I’ve still got that sweater I want to knit my sister for her birthday next month. Clearly the shawl will be picked up when I need to change things up a bit but I’ve got a lot of knitting distractions happening right now.

What about you, what you are working on?

Happiness Is…

I’ve been super productive on the knitting front. I decided to knit my aunt the Bermondsey sweater because I know it and it’s an easy pattern to memorize so it will go quickly. I started it last night and am already separated for sleeves. The body should fly off my needles. So today I thought I’d share a few things that define happiness for me lately.

Couch snuggles with Cher. My sweet girl is 13 years old and we’ve been together for almost 4 years. I cherish all the snuggles and couch cuddles I can get.

My mischievous Jellybean. I took this picture after I put her in time out for growling at Cher. She’s my rotten little 5 year old chihuahua and I just adore her exuberance and goofiness. We are working on being so possessive…it takes time and patience.
Maddie’s sweater
Knitting for others. I’ve been knitting for babies and family and knowing I can make something that they can wear that makes them think of me makes me feel pretty good. Also my friend Rachel gave me these skein stitch markers years ago and they’re still my favorites for marking the beginning of the round. I think of her all the time when I’m knitting.

That’s it for me this Friday, I hope you have a weekend full of happiness.

Cozy Choices

In the last week I’ve knit three baby sweaters. More on the sister sweaters but I want to get pics of them in their sweaters to share. Next up I want to whip up a quick bulky weight knit for one of my aunts. She’s 90 and had surgery and is recovering but I want to make something comforting for her. Her favorite color is green but she also wears a lot of grey and black, so I picked up 4 skeins of green and 4 skeins of grey Berroco Vintage Chunky thinking I’d use my new brioche knitting skills to whip up a quick lap blanket. But then I thought how about a bulky weight cardigan that she can throw on when people come to visit? Right now I’m considering this.
Selvedge Cardigan
The Selvedge Cardigan. It’s in my library in a magazine and it’s a bottom up, bulky weight knit. I figure I could do the ribbing in one color and maybe even color block the sleeves a bit? Or perhaps another Bermondsey? This would be the third I’ve knit.
Striped Bermondsey and me
It has that great coziness to it that might be nice for laying around the house. Thoughts? Suggestions?
